New York Times bestselling author and Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Florida, Uwem Akpan, has described the ill-fated Biafra Republic declared by late Colonel Odumegwu Ojukwu in 1967 as the greatest evil that beset the minorities of Niger Delta. Biafra, officially the Republic of Biafra, was a partially recognised secessionist state in West Africa that declared independence from Nigeria and existed from 1967 until 1970.

Minorities In Nigeria Were Greatest Victims Of Biafra Republic Declared By Late Ojukwu – US-based Professor, AkpanBiafra, officially the Republic of Biafra, was a partially recognised secessionist state in West Africa that declared independence from Nigeria and existed from 1967 until 1970.

Its territory consisted of the predominantly Igbo-populated then Eastern Region of Nigeria which is now divided into the South-East and South-South regions of Nigeria. During an interview with Rudolf Okonkwo in 90MinutesAfrica, Professor Akpan argued that the Biafra narrative shaped by most Igbo writers over time was one-sided because it painted the Igbos as innocent victims of the civil war.

The award-winning author further stated that"the minorities did not want Biafra. The Igbos under Ojukwu went out of their way to block the creation of minority states. They imposed Biafra on minorities. The Ibos were thus engaged in two wars – fighting against big-time Nigeria and fighting against small-time minorities. The minorities were massacred by the Biafrans.

The man is correct, because of the civil war ALL other minority tribes became relegated to 2nd class citizens status, from Igala to Ijaw to Yiv,Urhobo,Bini, Anang, Kanuri and all other tribes have been relegated. It's crazy that Nigerians are not outraged enough to make a change.

You don't say. Pray tell. They did suffer repercussions. But from Nigeria . Not Biafra.

I used to think the igbos love themselves more than hausas loved themselves until Ipob started killing fellow igbos in the east, all in the name of biafra…East is now like north,no peace and many igbos are fleeing to south and west ,running from their own people, what a shame!

Keep enjoying your Nigeria. It’s a heaven on earth. 🥱

if north nigeria/uk rulers can get ogoni people to testify against sen karo wiwa & blame him for mùrdering his own chiefs it’s not hard for nigeria/uk to do false flag attàcks on coastal territories they controlled within weeks of the war. goal remains to keep south divided

Very correct.

This mumu MonsieurUwem man forgot that the name Biafra was suggested by a man from the so called minority, any way ur opinion is just but one man propaganda, willing tool that is what u are Akpan

Prof, you are very wrong with due respect. The Nigeria military committed those attrocities. It was Eastern Consultative Assembly that mandated Col. Ojukwu after due consultation to declare Biafra. BIAFRA is not a Terrorists State. God meant well for BIAFRA

The young igbo boys that are mislead and brainwashed by Nnamdi Kanu will never accept this truth

Professor Akpan's postulation is devoid of fallacies and misrepresentation of historical antecedents. The victims analogy from the Prof where does it come from or has been eradicated but the Wilinks Commission report brought some succour through state creation.

Someone tell Mr Akpan that Ojukwu didn't just declare Biafra. The Eastern Consultative Assembly voted unanimously in favour of it.

Epele

Congrats bro. Referendum loading....

Collect your money... cashtivist

God bless the noble and revered professor. His assertion succinct, logical and instructive. God bless the SS people for their patience and perseverance. They are truely victims of subjugation and domination.

Then Mr professor akpan push for referendum so that you can vote for Nig. Don't be stumbling block for your people.

That's the hard facts but the Igbos wouldn't tell the truth. A defeated tribe.

'Akpan'. The meaning sha

But the igbos who were being slaughtered and their properties looted nationwide were not victims...thank you👏

Prof my foot. Go n ask late Gen. Effiong he is your brother from your tribe and the second in command. Abeg stop disgracing shaming your professorship.

Biafra soldiers assaulted people from Rivers State, Delta, calabar

Are they not the victim also in Nigeria ? ... I can understand if you have hatred for igbos but stereotyping igbos for hate is very bad ...I loss my respect from you Sahara reporter
