Minister of Power, NERC, DisCos, others to face Senate over electricity tariff increase

Barring any last minute change of mind, the Senate may have resolved to summon stakeholders in the electricity sector over the proposed unilateral increase in electricity tariffs, The Nation learnt on Tuesday.

He noted that “the outburst of Nigerians, organisations and corporate bodies against the proposed increase should not be ignored.” He noted that the intervention of the Senate in the raging crisis of electricity tariff increase may also mitigate legal tussle over the issue. According to him, the issue of comprehensive metering of consumers and assurance of constant power supply should be looked into.

They are unaccountable to no one except the 'double' that appointed them. And of course what would the docile public do? Nothing!

NERC approves hike in electricity tariff from January | The Guardian Nigeria News - Nigeria and World News“The commission, however, based adjustments in the tariff, on the relevant data obtained from the Central Bank of Nigeria and National Bureau of Statistics such as average monthly inflation rate of 11.3 per cent, the exchange rate of N309.97.” It is very unfair to Nigerians that NERCNG should increase tariff with the present lack of adequate infrastructure for power supply by Discos especially enugudisco. Even b4 d fall in generation we hardly have supply. Also responds to repairs is below 10%. Bottom line:These guys have a goldmine before them but aren't making as much profit as they'd want to because of their inefficiency .As always the case in Nigeria, hit the soft target harder -simply up tariff;offering even poorer services but making even higher profit.
