A man who intruded on the grounds of Windsor Castle in 2021 to kill the late Queen Elizabeth has been sentenced to jail.
He was on the castle grounds for two hours before he was captured by a police officer whom he told, “I am here to kill the Queen.” Chail, who is of Indian Sikh heritage, had hatched the plan earlier in the year in order to avenge the Amritsar massacre of 1919.In February 2023, he pleaded guilty to attempting to “injure or alarm” the Queen under the Treason Act, as well as possession of an offensive weapon and making threats to kill.
The judge considered the testimony of three psychiatrists regarding Chail’s mental state. He thereafter ruled that the 21-year-old should be held at Broadmoor high-security psychiatric hospital and afterward transferred to a prison to serve his sentence when he regains his health.
