A 28-year-old mediaeval history enthusiast who slapped French President Emmanuel Macron risks up to three years in jail when he appears in court for the first time on Thursday, having told investigators he acted 'without thinking'.

This handout screen grab courtesy of CBS/Face-The-Nation shows French President Emmanuel Macron during an interview with “Face The Nation” moderator Margaret Brennan on CBS News, April 17, 2021.

The charge carries a maximum three-year jail sentence and a fine of 45,000 euros , although the court will take into account the defendant’s clean criminal record and any expression of remorse. Damien T., described by friends as usually shy and placid, also told investigators that he sympathised with anti-government “yellow vest” protesters and leaned to the right/far-right in his political views, but had no party affiliation.

In Nigeria his family would have concluded his funeral

Three year jail term is far better than instant death which if he had slapped Nigerian Buhari would have been his punishment. In fact, it is possible he eventually will be let off the hook if properly established he suffers mental setback. I call it civilized leadership!

🤣🤣🤣.....They should check him he may be having mental problem you never can tell.
