Lassa fever: 176 affected in Edo

The number of persons affected by the Lassa Fever disease has risen to 176 in Edo State.A total of 33 cases are under observation while the number of deaths remained eight.

It was gathered that health officials were deployed to border communities to help prevent the disease. This was disclosed after a meeting of the Edo Committee on Lassa Fever Control presided over by the Deputy Governor, Hon Philip Shaibu.Chief Press Secretary to Shaibu, Comrade Musa Ebomhiana, who spoke to reporters after the meeting, said the state government approved the deployment of three ambulances to help quick response in conveying patients to Lassa fever centres.

Musa said the state government also agreed to buy two additional dialysis machine to complement the one at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital.
