DAILY POST learnt that this is the second Lassa Fever death in Enugu State.The management of the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, UNTH, Enugu has now confirmed the death of another Lassa Fever Patient brought to the hospital.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Obinna Onodugo said: “it’s confirmed that a case of Lassa Fever came to UNTH today and died at our Emergency and Accident.” “We are currently tracing contacts. We are also working with the Enugu State epidemiology Team and the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, to ensure that proper measures are taken at the mortuary and to protect staff against new cases.“There is no cause for alarm,” he said in a statement on Friday.“You are advised to be very careful these days and to have a high index of suspicion, while observing universal safety precautions,” he said.
The CMD urged his staff to privately call his attention or that of the CMAC if they notice any lapses so they can be addressed.Related Topics:
