Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have decried the spate of drug abuse among youths in the country.

One of the lawmakers representing Ikeja 2 Constituency in the assembly, Mr Adedamola Kasunmu, and the Chief Whip, Mojisola Meranda, spoke at the 7th annual constituency stakeholders meeting held simultaneously across the state’s 40 constituencies.Speaking on the theme, “Increasing wave of drug abuse: A threat to nation building,” Kasunmu raised the alarm over the prevalence of black spots in his constituency.

He said, “Black spots are springing up everywhere at a frightening rate in our main streets and inner communities across Ikeja and Ojodu. Nigeria’s progress can only be better protected through the youth. I will do a series of engagements targeted at addressing these problems. I will also facilitate vocational training and empowerment for youths to help shift their focus.’’

Kasunmu noted that Ipodo, which he said had become a drug and substance abuse spot in Ikeja, needed restructuring to make it inhabitable for miscreants.
