The Nigerian Correctional Service ( NCoS) says 30 inmates had been pardoned and released by the Lagos state government...

Author:The Nigerian Correctional Service says 30 inmates have been pardoned and released by the Lagos state government.

According to NAN, Rotomi Oladokun, spokesperson of Lagos command, said the inmates were pardoned by Kazeem Alogba, the state’s chief judge. “The inmates released are those who committed minor offences such as assault, disorderliness, low-level shoplifting, road traffic offences, theft, burglary, among others,” Oladokun said.

“There is, however, a need to free more inmates as the state custodial facilities are housing over 8000 inmates, which is above their capacities.”He encouraged the Lagos state government to investigate the database of detainees to see whether additional offenders may be freed through the legal system.

Oladokun further encouraged Nigerians to welcome the pardoned inmates and aid their reintegration into society.
