several building collapse in Lagos State recently, the Chief Imam of Lagos, Sheikh Sulaimon Oluwatoyin Abou-Nolla has urged the state government to ensure that builders and land owners comply strictly with building regulations.

Sheikh Abou-Nolla said enforcement and compliance with building regulations would curb the incidences of building collapse in the state. Speaking with journalists after visiting some survivors of the Massey Street building collapse at the General Hospital, Lagos Island recently, Sheikh Abou-Nolla said the agency in charge of building regulations should ensure defective buildings are pulled down.“We should not wait for this kind of unfortunate incident before we do the needful. It is better to pull down defective buildings than to lose lives.

“We thank Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, Commissioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris and the hospital management for helping to ease the pains of the affected people. It is important that the people at this time, need trauma management, our prayers and our support – financially, physically and mentally to return to their normal lives. We pray Allah to guide and protect us from calamities and ease the pains of the victims,” he said.
