A bricklayer, Idris Saula, will never be the same again after six years of his life were stolen by the country’s criminal justice system.

Saula was held in the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos State for six years despite legal advice from the state’s Directorate of Public Prosecutions that he should be released five years earlier.gathered that the 36-year-old had in 2014 gone to work at a construction site in the Sangotedo, Ajah area of the state. After a few days in custody, he was transferred to the Ikeja office of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, where he spent five months.

The victim, while recounting his ordeal, said his inability to pay N50,000 to the policemen at the Ajiwe Police Station for bail was behind his predicament. Saula said in 2017, some inmates in the medium security prison were moved to the maximum security prison, because the medium facility was congested.

The 69-year-old mother said nothing was heard until eight months later when some freed inmates said they sighted him in Kirikiri.

I will only advice the victim to give thanks to God for his release and leave the fight for God. Who knows, maybe God hid him there for a purpose. When there's life they say, there's hope.

That serves him right

The only case you will see must of the layers handle is land and Property Case...

This injustice is too much for a young man who is struggling to survive.

6yrs of his life wasted... 😠😠😠. This man should be compensated bikonu... Biko

This is why I don't jump to conclusions about criminal defendants. There are more innocent people unlawfully incarcerated than politicians looting us dry

I just finish reading story in fact I bust into tears for the unlawful detained of the young man for six years, the police force is part of the injustice problems we had in Nigeria until they flushed out d criminals among them, it will continue.

Special thanks to FemiFalanaSAN. While the PoliceNG is being sued and the Criminal Justice system is being challenged, efforts should aso be put in place in ensuring that sanity is returned into the Nigeria Police Force. Many indigents keep suffering from police misconduct...

The pitiful story of many Nigerians. When a geoup of recruited uneducated idiots in uniform feel that they have earned the right of judge, jury and executioner. That if you don't pay their dubious fees, they've the power to kill or send you to prison. The cup will soon run over.

What a failed nation !😥😓 God bless FemiFalanaSAN for his intervention. .. a very sad story😥😥

Only God knows how many Saulas are so locked up. Please Lawyer Falana fight for this Innocent man and family.

Enough of this flourishing injustice in the land To our erudite human right lawyer Femi Falana, my prayer is that Allah Subhanah wa ta'ala avert any form of sorrow in your family for continually wiping off the tears of others Pls don't relent in securing justice for this citizen

There are thousands of Nigerians like this in prison

I am sure lawyer Folake that demanded 150k would be ashamed of herself by now(that’s if she has shame). Shame on the criminal justice system and Nigerian police

So sad... Our society is just messed up. It's a taboo to be poor in this country.

I pray he heals asap. The police office that refused to do the needful needs to be jailed

This is so sad. We thank God he is alive. There’s hope

In other countries, restitution is paid to such person. Lagos State should do that, and the prosecutor that absconded with the DPP recommendation should be jailed.

Wow! This is sad. He should probably sue them o. He'll be a rich Man.

They will find a name to it, the ones they loot with pen 🖊 God will punish them.. Na hell fire be their own prison

A world where sinners judge sinners that sin differently.

I just read the full story, and one thing I can say is, Nigerian lawyers are on the same boat with our police. Only a few of them like segalink are exceptional. The rest are just dummos wearing wigs but can't stand to defend basic human rights.

Aaah, God ...what a country.

Waoh, thank you Femi Falana for the rescue. NPF must pay...

Chai. i guess its condition that made. He does this. The same bad government that put you into a condition will still judge you.

Six years wasted for no course!!!!!! Lord have mercy

Which be phantom robbery abeg don't use grammar to kill us here this is corona period
