Residents along the corridor of the Lagos-Badagry expressway on Saturday raised the alarm over the unbearable rate of extortion of motorists by security agencies along the road.

They said apart from constituting gridlock, the number of checkpoints from Mile 2 to Badagry have increased tremendously.

The residents noted that the Nigerian Army has five checkpoints mounted between 4pm and 6.30pm, while the Nigerian Air Force has erected no fewer than six roadblocks on the roads within the axis. A resident of Badagry, Felix Godonu, stressed that communities under insurgency attacks do not have the kind of security checkpoints like the ones along the Lagos-Badagry expressway.

He said, “The checkpoints have brought more sorrow to the residents because the military officers while claiming to enforce the law have killed many people, especially the youths who are the future of the community.

Drivers were lamenting bitterly the other day. They said it's between 1550 to 1600 per trip from mile 2 to Badagry!!!!! How do they survive if they don't jerk up fares? Masses still have to suffer it on the long run!!!

The oga on the road!

Is everywhere ooo Come to sango, early morning and u will see them,I think they av their target.beggars with uniform

Its no more news if you don't give them money they will ask for your birth certificate

Did the NigerianPolice tell you that they're not aware? They have a daily target which a certain % goes to d oga at the top.

Despite salary increment, is it a curse?

LagosDriver PoliceNG pls look into this allegation

The last time visited badagry, I decided to go on cab due to the bad road info.... amazingly, the driver shared 50 and 100 to like 12 police illegal check point to badagry roundabout. PoliceNG should just do something on them.

It has been going on for years day and night.

Nigeria police are beggars with uniform

If government like, pay police one million naira as salary, devourers will still follows them, both left and right.

The Extortion is just so much and bad, police 15,custom 10,immigration 17 ,NDLEA 8 ,sars 14 check point everywhere.....hmmm!

Men In Black are at work

Such cannot happen in the North. Its appalling down South

For me this guys have not choice than this. should do an xtray report on situation of policemen in Nigeria from Barracks to garage to xtray how they survive economically. I prefer seeing this dark uniformed men on the road than dark glassed men.

PoliceNG can never change in this country

It has been on for years now. And these policemen has the backing off their ogas. They do with threat of shooting any driver that failed to pay, even when your papers are complete or not additionally, the military engaged the services of touts in the evenings to do theirs

More than 50 check points, Sad

Locational franchise and the Igbo question in Lagos - Vanguard News NigeriaOn February 23, 2019, some hoodlums in Lagos attempted to disrupt voting in the neighbourhoods of Lagos that are occupied predominantly by Igbos. By the way the definition of “Igbo” is any man or woman whose tribe is indigenous to the South East and South South regions of Nigeria, so that for the average Yoruba a man from Akwa Ibom is as much “Omo Ibo” as the woman from Enugu. Those involved or who sympathise with this policy of political exclusion argue, that Yorubas do not attempt to influence the outcome of electoral contest in the Igbo states; that Lagos being Yoruba territory, only people of Yoruba extraction should determine the direction of the votes and that allowing Igbos to participate in the determination of electoral contests will bolster the claim by certain Igbos that Lagos is a no man’s territory developed by many. Some Yorubas were so bold as to file out with placards that demanded that Igbos should move out of Lagos and go back to their homes of origin. vanguardngr Generalization is a convenient tool that myopic views are played out. That's the style of democracy in Lagos. Many Yorubas assume that if you are 'Igbo' you have no say in Lagos politics. Unfortunately it rubs off on other Yorubas. Igbo!! focus on the East. vanguardngr
