A social critic, Aisha Yesufu, has said the Kano State Islamic Police, Hisbah, should be ashamed of itself and the 'political sharia' it practices. Yesufu claimed the focus of Hisbah should be on the children who are roaming the streets, abandoned by their parents. The statement followed a ruling by the Kano High Court banning a popular Tiktoker, Murja Kunya, from featuring on all social media platforms.

Hisbah had arrested the controversial Tiktoker, charged her to court, and was remanded in prison custody since February 20, 2024. The judge restricted her from using all social media platforms pending the determination of the case and ordered the Commissioner of Police to arrest her if she violated the ban. However, this has been viewed by many as a crass violation of her fundamental right to free speech.
