Announcing the invitation after a unanimous agreement at the plenary, yesterday, Speaker of the House, Hamisu Chidari, insisted that the revenue chairman must appear before the house on Tuesday.
Moved under matters of urgent public interest by the Majority Leader, Labaran Madari, and seconded by the Deputy Majority Leader, Abdullahi Yaryasa, the invitation became pertinent to resolve the revenue issues of the state. KIRS had come under strong criticism recently, particularly over the internally-generated income and sharing method between the board and government.
Stakeholders and tax experts had also faulted the N30 billion official record of IGR for 2020, a figure they considered grossly below the economic strength of Kano. The stakeholders alleged lack of transparency and possible diversion of public fund by the service.
