Former vice presidential candidate and Labour Party flagbearer in the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi, has shed light on his decision not to step down for his Peoples Democratic Party counterpart, Atiku Abubakar.

Obi, who served as Atiku’s running mate in the 2019 presidential election under the PDP banner, left the party prior to the 2023 polls following internal wrangling. In a press briefing on Monday, Obi clarified his reasons for declining to step down or collaborate with Atiku. He said his commitment to advocating for a new Nigeria, a stance that differentiated him from other presidential candidates.
