IPOB: Nnamdi Kanu fully prepared to appear in court next week - Lawyer

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is optimistic of victory as he would appear before Justice Binta Nyako of a Federal High Court in Abuja next week, his lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor has said.

Ejiofor said this in a statement he issued on Friday morning after his routine visit to Kanu at the Headquarters of the Department of State Services.Services, DSS.Abia high court to rule on Nnamdi Kanu's fundamental rights suit “The said Government overreached itself by ensuring that our client was brought back to Nigeria by every means possible.Nnamdi Kanu: We prefer political solution… others like him got amnesty, says Ohanaeze Author: Ayodele Oluwafemi January 13, 2022 10:24 PM George Obiozor, president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, says the federal government should adopt political solution on the case of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

He said, “In the course of the visit, our discussions focused primarily on our final preparations for the legal battle that would resume on the turf of the Federal High Court, Abuja Judicial Division, from next week and on subsequent adjourned dates, if any.“We coalesced the product of our individual reflections on the most potent legal strategies henceforth to be adopted, fine-tuned and harmonised them, and then distilled them into a single, conclusive, potent, workable formula.Emma Powerful, spokesman of IPOB, issued the warning while lamenting that Kanu is placed in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day.We are optimistic that the court outings of Onyendu would be impressive.“Further, we view the recent extra-judicial comment made by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in a media chat he had with two journalists about the pending trial of our client with circumspection.Onyendu himself is in high spirit. The statement reads partly: “We the global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by our great and indefatigable leader Mazi Nnamdi KANU, once again, wish to raise alarm over the continuous detention of our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, in a solitary confinement at the State Security Services, DSS, headquarters, Abuja.“Our discussions with him further reassured him and strengthened his determination to persevere unrelentingly.“We in Igboland have made it categorically clear that we prefer a political solution to it — a dialogue to end it.

I declare to you, Umuchineke, that Onyendu is fully prepared to appear in court as from January 18 2022.Justice Binta Nyako is an accomplice to the suffering of an innocent man who commited no crime known to law in Nigeria and the world.“We firmly believe that the presence of those representatives in court would make all parties tow the path of honour and rectitude and assure the fair trial of our client. He is rooting for victory and knows that, with the help of Chukwuokike Abiama, victory is assured.“You will all behold with your eyes an interesting dimension in the harmonised workable formula we have evolved.“We are watching her and the DSS.The detractors of Onyendu will be comprehensively humbled and permanently put to shame. They should exhibit a modicum of civility in their operations and must refrain from harassing, intimidating, and or arresting innocent civilians who may throng the court premises on the 18th, 19th and 20th of January, 2022, in demonstration of their unwavering solidarity to our client.Further, Onyendu utilized the opportunity afforded by our visit to mandate us to admonish his teeming supporters and followers. Our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is being held in solitary confinement 23 hours every day.Dialogue is the answer.

“He advises those of them that would appear in court in demonstration of their unflinching support and loyalty to him to conduct themselves with decorum, be civil in their conduct and comportment, shun violence and deviant behaviour in any manner or form, and exercise restraint in speech.“On our part, we have caused formal correspondences to issue on responsible, sovereign, democratic governments and other international institutions to prevail on the Nigerian government to caution uncouth and overzealous security agents. Many of these persons so arrested are still languishing in various detention facilities in Nigeria.“We can authoritatively declare to you, Umuchineke, that those correspondences are receiving the requisite attention they deserve. We are optimistic that there would be a positive transformation in the conduct and general approach of the said overzealous security agents at the next appearance of Onyendu in Court.Read Also. This material, and other digital content on this website, may not be reproduced, published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed in whole or in part without prior express written permission from PUNCH.We are not talking about use of force.
