Igbo group wants CPs in S’East redeployed - Punch Newspapers

A group, Igbo National Council, has called for the immediate redeployment of all Commissioners of Police in the South-East and North-Central zones over the rising insecurity in the two regions.

A statement issued in Owerri, the Imo State capital, on Sunday by its President, Chilos Godsent, also called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmed Gumi.INC called for a forensic investigation of the murder of Dr Chike Akunyili, widower to the former Minister of Information, Prof. Dora Akunyili.

The statement read, “The INC demands the immediate redeployment of all the serving Commissioners of Police, Directors of the Department State Security and all heads of Brigade Commanders in South-East and North-Central geopolitical zones as first step to mitigate the militancy and escalation of killings in the aforementioned regions.

“The INC calls for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, for his alliance and obvious support of bandits and Boko Haram that are killing Nigerians, sacking many communities and forcefully acquiring the lands of Nigerians.”All rights reserved.
