The Chairman of Nigerian Medical Association, Enugu State chapter and member of the state action committee coronavirus, Dr Ike Okwesili, in this interview withdid you say states should be locked down if we must contain the COVID-19 in the country? Aren’t you being alarmist?

I have only seen Rivers State completely locked down, if that statement they releases is true; meaning they don’t want people to enter and they don’t want people to leave. But these things have to have a human face. You need to look for criteria whether there are people that are on essential duties. If you already have infections in a state, people should stay at home because the prevention is the best medicine in this case. This disease has no cure, you can only manage it.

Religious centres are still operating. They believe that it is time to turn to God in prayers and ours is a religious nation. Do you think such centres and markets should be shut down? If we will do what we are proposing we are not going to spread new cases to other areas because people will be constrained to stay where they are, but my only fear is that we are not testing enough. If we test more you might see more. If you do more contact tracing, you might see more. If you try to lock down and contain people where they are, then you will be sure new infection doesn’t get to new areas.

The problem isnt staying at home. I mean, who like to be in the sun and stressing out all day🤔🤔🤔 The problem is lack of food and other essentials to keep them alive while they stay at home

If you restrict people to their homes, what's the mechanism for ameliorating their plight? Are you going to restrict their power bills, water bills, gasoline bills, food bills and house rent as well? People need to feel safe to stay at home.

Staying at home isn't the problem.....d main issue here is high cost of feeding
