As the world celebrates the international day of the girl child today, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Akwa Ibom State council as

well as Breakthrough Action Nigeria, a USAID-funded project in the state have sought for a better deal for the girl children and the implementation of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act, VAPP, in the state.

The association also urged churches, communities, Government, groups and organizations to preach against rape, teenage pregnancy, child marriage, female genital mutilation, child slavery and other harmful practices against the girl child. “To every girl who has been a victim of abuse, there is always a caring voice to speak out on your behalf, a shoulder to lean on , an advocate to change the bitter pills and a happy future ahead.
