Al Hassan was also involved in interrogations where torture was used to extract confessions, Mindua said. Al Hassan was convicted of “contributing to the crimes perpetrated by other members” of the Jihadist groups including mutilation and persecution. But jihadists who swept into the city considered the shrines idolatrous and destroyed them with pickaxes and bulldozers.
