I also present the news in Pidgin English.I was sick for about a year and after the illness, my vision went bad; images appeared to be doubled. I thought it was caused by the malaria and typhoid I had or the injection I received. I thought my vision would improve, unknown to me that it was far from what I thought.
I am a newscaster but I can’t read news now. When the problem started, I felt bad because I knew it would affect my job. At one point, I had to memorise the news script, instead of reading from the script. I used to use a flashlight to memorise the script. When I got to the studio, I kept making mistakes. It was difficult for me to tell my colleague’s that I had a problem.
It is painful. My brothers are not in Lagos where I reside, so I am left with the option of learning how to do things by myself. I am familiar with the corners of my apartment and have learnt to do certain things by myself, like turning on a gas cylinder, though I sustain injuries along the line. I also get help from some friends from the church I attend.That is what the Indian doctor has been telling me. He said I would be fine after the surgery.
When the problem started, my wife was there. I am at home now because I cannot afford to stay in the clinic and pay the bills.She only sends messages onbut I can’t read them and can’t tell someone to do that for me because they are private chats. I don’t want people in the neighbourhood and at work to know that she is no longer around.All rights reserved.
