Dr Simeon Ifere, a management specialist and lecturer at the University of Lagos Business School who retired as an operations consultant at Total Nigeria, talks toThe effect of the COVID-19 pandemic is still being felt by business organisations in different ways. How much impact do you think it has had on business management in Nigeria?

To the extent that there are structures in place to be able to communicate among employees and customers, they were able to operate. But those who run businesses in the hospitality industry, when there was a lockdown, people could not patronise them. So, it was not every business that could thrive with COVID-19, even without the lockdown, there was still a lockdown. Even in advanced countries, all the consequences could not be avoided.

Every organisation strives to achieve set objectives with the right resources. Are there pitfalls firms should be wary of in talent management? Such politics occurs in any part of the world. What this lobbying is is that someone is saying they can do certain things or trying to present themselves as being capable of doing something or trying to impress on the authorities that they should be given the opportunity. Now, those in leadership positions are objective enough, there is nothing wrong there . They evaluate what you are talking about and see whether you possess what is required to occupy such a position.
