Physicians at the Federal Neuro Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba, Lagos, and one of their patients, John Patrick, are engaged in accusations and counter-accusations as John claims to have become unable to walk unaided, partially blind and unable to speak properly again after an injection was administered on him almost three years ago.For John Patrick, 29, life could be very cruel and uncertain. One moment, he was a handsome, bubbly young man. The next moment, he had become a quadriplegic.

The young man is bedridden, partially blind and speech impaired. He claimed his life was permanently altered and at a standstill after he was administered an injection at the Federal Neuro Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba, Lagos, in 2017. He is also alleging that negligence and unprofessional conduct of some medical personnel in the psychiatric hospital had reduced him to an invalid.

John’s pitiable state remains a burden too hard for his ageing parents, Sam and Kate Patrick, to bear. He looks gaunt, with eyes rolling uncontrollably in their sockets.John recalls his journey.Sometime in 2017, his father took him to the Federal Neuro Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba, when he started exhibiting acts of violence. He said he had experimented with recreational drugs before then.

“When I got there, I wore my earpiece and was listening to music on my phone. I didn’t know that the nurse instructed me to climb a weighing scale. Suddenly, the ‘anti-crises boys’ pounced on me and subdued me in the most inhumane way. They treated me more like an animal than a patient. The last thing I remembered was that a nurse gave me an injection.”
