On Friday, July 30, 2021, two sections of the Bauchi-Ningi-Jigawa highway got cut off and washed away by a flood that followed a heavy rainfall. Three passengers from a bus trapped in the flood lost their lives, while over 250 goats being conveyed also drowned.
Immediately, I mobilised at least 20 youths to the place and when we got there, we discovered that there were about 14 people that were in the water. I was able to get a heavy truck there and we tied a rope to it and that was how we were able to rescue 11 people; but we couldn’t find three people because they got drowned.
As it is, I have missed the wedding I was going for already. The wedding was scheduled for 12 noon but this is 3.30pm now and I am still here with about 90 kilometres left for me to get to the Bauchi metropolis. Though I have missed the wedding, I still just want to proceed to Bauchi to spend some time with my family members.
