, and Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele yesterday joined other eminent Nigerians to plead with organised Labour to reconsider the planned strike over the economic satiation in the country.
Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Akin Rotimi Jr, said in a statement on the occasion of Nigeria’s 63 Independence Anniversary that the Green Chamber of the National Assembly would not relent in ensuring that the executive arm of government expedites palliative measures to cushion the effects of the removal of fuel subsidy on vulnerable Nigerians.
“As the ‘People’s Parliament’, the House of Representatives is not unmindful of the numerous challenges we are facing at this time.”The Olubadan asked labour to return to the negotiation table with the government with a view to averting the planned strike. “I want our labour leaders to cast their minds back to the last prolonged strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities and the effect on our students. How do we compensate for the loss of a whole academic session in the lives of the affected students? Such loss is eternal because it is not possible to wind back the hand of the clock. That’s just an example.”
