Indications to this development emerged at the weekend when Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva and other International Organizations, Ambassador Abiodun Richards Adejola, presented his Letter of Credence to the Director- General of the United Nations Office in Geneva, Ms. Tatiana Valovaya.
On her part, the Director General Tatiana Valovaya assured that the UN “will continue to engage and actively collaborate with Nigeria to address the challenges of terrorism and violent extremism.” Nigeria has battled the Boko Haram insurgency that has killed over 30,000 people and displaced nearly three million others. The situation has been compounded by the invasion of the Nigerian territory by the Islamic State in West Africa Province backed by ISIS.
