The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Wednesday, described his decision to post a picture of himself attending a leadership course at Harvard University in the United States of America as not being sensitive to the plight of Nigerian students currently suffering from the shutdown of academic activities in public universities due to the ongoing strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities and other unions.

The statement partly read, “Yesterday, I posted a picture of myself at the @Harvard @Kennedy_School, undergoing a course. That post was not sensitive to the present feelings of fellow citizens, especially parents and students who are presently bearing the brunt of the ongoing closure of public universities owing to the unresolved issues between the Academic Staff Union of Universities and the Federal Government of Nigeria.

“I apologise for the post at this time, and I hope you will understand that it was not my intention to cause disaffection. As Speaker of @HouseNGR, I have made multiple interventions within the powers of the legislature to avert the ongoing strike. I had direct engagements with ASUU, relevant government agencies. The House of Representatives is still keenly involved in seeking a resolution to the issues so our students can return to school.

“I have long been a champion of public education in Nigeria, and I have consistently advocated programs, policies and investments to improve the quality of public education in the country.

He is a fool for mocking Nigerian students

Medicine after death. I tells a lot how insensitive he and other leaders are.

Apology indeed, I guess you aren't concerned about Nigerian Universities. God will judge everyone

Apology accepted but we should not forget the fact that our leaders don't care about our well being in all areas of life.

Yes, that post by the Speaker was really damaging considering the circumstance currently surrounding our education sector..For him to have apologized, clearly shows that he meant to harm with the post..So apology accepted..We move!

Damage control.... If it is not to cause disaffection and mockery, what is it then?

One of the V.I.M ( Very Important Misfit) in the corridor of power and Relevance in this country...What a misfortune

For what? He is very aware of Nigeria's educational problem before moving on to Harvard school

Outrage as Gbajabiamila takes Harvard Course amid ASUU strikeSpeaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has been dragged on Twitter for circulating photos of himself receiving lectures at Harvard University in the United States, amidst the lingering strike of the Academic Staff Union of… What’s this Would Gbajabiamila be able to attend Harvard of the situation that subsist in the Nigerian environment had existed in the U.S? Gbajabiamila's attitude and presence in Harvard is selfish and runs against the grain of fairness on the on-going strike of ASUU. Those people don't even knows how to manage people. They know nothing about humanity. Choosing them to rule people is the biggest mistake in this country. Alots of our Politicians are useless people at all
