The Chairman of the Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, Andrew Osigwe, on Tuesday said he escaped assassination attempt when gunmen attacked his house in the Ihievbe area of the council.

Osigwe, who spoke on telephone, said he was not in the house when the gunmen came, but added that his wife and three sons were in the house and escaped unhurt.

He explained that his family was in the compound celebrating his last son’s birthday with some family friends gunmen came and shot indiscriminately at his house before driving to a neighbouring village. He said apart from shattering window glasses in the house, his vehicle parked inside the compound was riddled with bullets.

He blamed the state All Progressives Congress for the attack, saying its members were bent on winning the forthcoming governorship election by all means. He said, “I was told of plans to assassinate me before the election but not when and how it will happen. I wrote a petition to the Inspector General of Police and the state Commissioner of Police when I learnt of the plot, but nothing was done.”All rights reserved.
