The condemnation is contained through a press statement signed by its National President and National Secretary, Emeka Diwe and Gideon Adikwuru and made available to newsmen.ASETU insists that the country which claims to be a republic must run on the basis of law and constitutionalism, adding that the enforcement agents should respect the rights of the citizens and observe the rules of engagements.
It wondered why the security operatives are yet to clash with Fulani herdsmen and Boko Haram who have been raping and maiming innocent citizens from the southeast region. While rejecting the pogrom being meted out to the region, ASETU insists that no progressive nation thrives on double standards and injustice as witnessed in Nigeria.
It regretted that the same security agencies, who have now found the temerity, strength and latitude to murder unarmed citizens in Enugu, have displayed hopelessness in containing more vociferous security challenges like the banditry, kidnapping and insurgency in parts of the country.
It, therefore, called on the Federal Government to promptly set up a panel of inquiry to ascertain the cause of the massacre in Enugu state while commiserating with the families of those who lost their loved ones in the unfortunate incident.
