Correctional Inmates

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State, on Friday, released 23 correctional inmates. The governor released the inmates during visits to all the custodial centres in the state ahead of the Eid-el Kabir festival to extend his hands of love to the inmates.

Also, cases of 18 lifers were reviewed: 10 lifers had their sentences commuted to 21 years imprisonment, six lifers had their sentences commuted to 10 years imprisonment, and two lifers had their sentences commuted to two years imprisonment. The sentence of a female inmate serving seven years imprisonment was reviewed and reduced to six months imprisonment. The governor reportedly paid their transport fees to their various destinations.

The reduction and release were based on the health status of the inmates and the belief that the inmates have reformed. During the release, the Controller of Corrections in the state, Mr Danmairomu Shuaib Ayodeji, appreciated the governor for the good gesture. He advised the inmates to be worthy ambassadors of their various homes and not to return to crime. He applauded the Controller General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa, for providing the enabling environment to operate.
