The private sector cannot be left out of the conversation. At Kimberly-Clark Nigeria, we have chosen to do this through our She SABI initiative. The She SABI initiative, which is a local adaptation of our global Kotex “She Can” programme, focuses on eradicating period stigma and providing young girls with the much-needed menstrual-hygiene support and education at a time critical for the growth and development of self-esteem, self-confidence, and socialisation skills.

Yet, we must look further, seeking to ensure sustainable change and advancement of the Nigerian girl-child; establishing partnerships with like-minded organizations across public, private and civil sectors, as we give millions of young Nigerian girls the information, freedom and confidence they need to live their lives. When we forge these partnerships, we can scale our reach and impact, and contribute towards improving development outcomes.

The swarming enthusiasm Kimberly-Clark and many other organisations have applied in undertaking matters affecting the girl-child is commendable. However, we can achieve more with collaboration. Only sustained, concerted effort, with all relevant stakeholders pulling on the same end of the proverbial rope, delivers our joint desire for a sustainable life for the girl-child.
