FRSC issues warning to officers after fatal car chase in Ibadan

The Federal Road Safety Corps on Saturday cautioned its officers against chasing erring motorists no matter the traffic offence committed.

FRSC Corps Public Education Officer, Mr Bisi Kazeem, gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos. He was reacting to media reports of an accident on Friday in Ibadan following a chase by FRSC officers.“The Corps Marshal, Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, condemned the act as it is our rule that officers should not chase any erring motorist.

“Rather the vehicle number should be taken and the offender will in no time be arrested through our drivers’ licence portal. “As a paramilitary agency investigation must be carried out and if the officers are found guilty, they will be dealt with accordingly,” Kazeem said.

The officers should be punished. They extort money from motorists and those who failed to cooperate are accused of frivolous offences.

They haven't been given firearms, what will happen if they are eventually given firearms..... did I also hear the commandant say that the vehicle will be tracked, in Nigeria? Where there is no database. How many stolen vehicles have bee tracked or recovered in Nigeria?
