The Federal Government has retained a controversial requirement for foreign journalists applying for Nigerian visa.

The provision, which was introduced by the Goodluck Jonathan administration, was retained in the new Nigerian Visa Policy 2020 launched by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari .

Although not expressly stated in the visa policy, The PUNCH learnt that the process of getting accreditation at the Federal Ministry of Information is often tedious and comes with its own requirements. “I first heard about this visa policy when some journalists were to come from South Africa shortly after the election and they were told by the Nigerian Embassy in South Africa to get a letter of clearance from the Ministry of Information and we opposed that.

Foreign journalists don’t beat around the bush unlike Nigerian journalists and eye services. They will expose everything about our useless & clueless government hence the reasons why they are scared. Like they even care about Nigeria when they can be in other better countries.

Nigeria’s Electricity Problem: FG vs. DISCOs By Reuben Abati | Sahara ReportersThe Buhari government simply needs to move beyond politics and sentiments. If President Buhari succeeds in solving the electricity supply conundrum in Nigeria, that alone will be enough legacy for his administration. For a writer of Reuben Abati's caliber to twit on electricity generation, transmission and distribution and get only one retwitt and 12 likes is probably and indication that readers don't buy his deliberate refusal to discuss the real issues.
