Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has restated the need for the country to regulate the social media. He disclosed this at the House of Representatives during a public hearing organised by the Mr. Odebunmi Dokun...

Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, speaks during an interview on Nigeria’s suspension of Twitter in Abuja, Nigeria, on June 9, 2021. – Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed told AFP Twitter had sought talks with the government, which last week suspended the platform’s operations in the country, saying it was used for activities threatening the country’s stability.

He asserted that the country’s laws must not be subservient to international telecommunication union treaties in view of the need to protect peculiar situations in our country. He also faulted moves to compel the National Broadcasting Corporation to pay all the money accruing to it into the federation account in accordance with Section 162 of the constitution.

“If that is the way the executive is thinking, it will be a draw back if you now pay everything into the Treasury Single Account. It means that the government would have to continue to pay our salaries and take care of all our needs. This will defeat the objective of the federal government that certain parastatals should contribute more to the revenue of government.”

This came as a human right lawyer, Monday Oyekachi Ubani, sued the federal government and three others at the Federal High Court, Lagos, over the Twitter ban.Joined in the suit are the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, and the Nigerian Communications Commission .

Social media already has some form of regulation: you don’t like what’s been posted and if it flouts the platform rules, that post can be taken down - ask MBuhari. Individuals posting inflammatory statements can also be tracked and prosecuted

If they achieve this, we are all gonna.

This Liar Mohamed or Lie Mohamed don’t even know the difference between Democracy and Communism. Just because he visited China once, he want us to just switch to Chinese way of Government. Most people that carried expo during their school days this is how they end up.🤣

Its not Lai fault, its our fault as we lack critical thinking about chosing leaders/representatives across board. We are too emotional instead of being factual & analytical. Anyway, I suggest a big protest shud be organized against this. This is a clear dictatorship

This man is too analogue as minister of information in 21s century - information age. In his words on Twitter ban, he said he still doesn't know how d ban affect d Nigeria youth.

It will pay us, let’s not be sentimental about this serious issue.

Tell Lai say his end is near

What are they afraid of

You are a thief sir

This is the best time to regulate social media

And they will soon do it. I told people they will not just stop with twitter. It will continue until every human rights are suppressed and denied so the world won't hear shit.

where are you people tweeting from if I may ask ya?

Vote them out- simple.

They want to regulate what brought them to power and they already have rubber stamps senate president and speaker but l know this will cause a big fight in the National Assembly

Very studious FG

Where are you tweeting from
