According to him, the agricultural sector provides about 70 per cent of employment opportunities with increased means of livelihoods to farmers.
Buni disclosed this on Monday when he received the FAO representative to Nigeria and to the Economic Community of West African States , Fred Kafeero, at the Government House in Damaturu.He said that agriculture remains the mainstay of the people, as farmers continue to rely on the sector to earn their incomes.
“There is the need to harness the rich agricultural resources to achieve national food security and to sustain farmers and herders’ incomes,” he said, adding that the government will do everything possible to accord priority to the sector. He assured that the administration will adopt measures that could boost agricultural activities to increase jobs and farmers’ incomes.
While responding, Kafeero disclosed that the FAO’s new programme tagged: “Hand to Hand Initative,” is to provide the underprivileged with technical assistance to sustain food sufficiency and security.”
