Falling Oil Price: A Challenge For Nigeria To Look Inwards – Lawan

A file photo of the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, during plenary at the upper chamber of the National Assembly in Abuja.President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan on Wednesday said the global falling price of crude oil should be a challenge for Nigeria to devise other means of growing the nation’s economy.

“This is the time for us to come up with strategies that will not make us to go back on our reliance on oil even if the price improves. The Senate President who debunked the notion that Nigeria is rich because of its oil-producing status said with the crude oil cost of production of US$30 per barrel, the nation realised only $5 per barrel if it is sold at $35.

Its now you guys want to.look inwards, you are not serious

Now is the best time to invest in palm oil industries. We underrate this product so much yet we go ahead to import it.

My unhappiness is that those who keep stashing away our funds, because the oil still flows today, have no idea how to diversify, nor build any economy. They are so dependent on the much they grab, that they feel they may not be adversely affected. That's not a patriotic posture.

But because, he and those others, were from a particular part of the country, the members merely clapped, shook hands with them and that's all. Today, when the economic trouble is already at the door, we now want to echo, by lip service, the need for the same diversification

NIGERIA AND HER MENTAL LETHARGY A country that waits for the 'rains' to soak her properly, before she starts hurrying for any nearby shelter. Nnia Nwodo and some others came to the National Assembly and sincerely suggested ways for diversification of the economy before it's late.

A challenge for you to stop borrowing, a challenge for you stop wasting our resources on irrelevant things, a challenge for you to look into agriculture and other things, a challenge for you to have sense.

Keep legislating in the best of your knowledge .... Neglecting the pressing issue.... Bills like open defecation, immunity for house members and others, banning of importation of generator, amnesty for tagged repented boko haram members, hate speech and the rest. So continue

Talk is cheap

We would require a vibrant and sacrificial National Assembly for that purpose. How about the members forfeiting their salaries and allowances as a first step in that direction?

Looking inwards is to cut down your big burger allowances.

Good morning Sah

One way to look inwards is to reduces your salaries and benefits by as much as 80% , we would save billions

A shift from agriculture to oil economy, lost of interest in the agricultural sector. Agriculture recorded steady economic growth throughout the country’s recent recession and supported macroeconomic stability against a backdrop of the oil market. Time bomb ticking

Slight touch on oil price, our leaders will cry out. Indeed they're truly brain dead leaders we have in this country.

Don't forget you've approved that collosal loan already. Now, oil price is falling. All of you will till the soil to repay that loan when no one will ask for our oil.

When men say there is a casting down, we shall say there is a lifting up. God bless the federal republic of Nigeria
