Put this way when they go about their business in the way that got the demonstrators’ goat, the police only express the flip-side of an old argument, one where private enterprise is not to be trusted. Where all property is theft. In which case, SARS is thus no more than our equivalent of Chairman Mao’s Red Guards, diligently pursuing the de-kulakisation of the country.

This is why it will not come as a surprise if the next intervention fund series is dedicated to police reform.
