The governors also ask the government to raise taxes across board and levy anyone earning N30,000 and above monthly.

Nigerian governors have advised the federal government to offer federal civil servants who are older than 50 years a one-off retirement package to exit the service, as part of coordinated efforts to instill fiscal discipline and prevent the nation from imminent economic collapse.

Officials familiar with details of the meeting, who spoke to PREMIUM TIMES, explained that the governors were concerned about the deteriorating state of the economy and a proposal to restore fiscal discipline was presented to the federal government. PREMIUM TIMES reported Wednesday that Nigeria’s external reserves amount to only $15 billion, well below the $36 billion balance on the gross external reserves claimed by the bank. With the nation spending N5.9 trillion on imports in the first quarter of the year, reserves of $15 billion would barely cover four months of import.

The governors also asked the government to reduce duplications and waste, reduce 1% granted to NASENI to 0.2%, amend the Act in 2022 Finance Bill, reduce personnel costs of federal government MDAs, and expedite privatization of non-performing assets like the NDPHC power plants.

They should collapse Fed House of Reps. We don't need 2 legislative houses.

Polithiefcians above 50 should as well retire, let them lead by example..

They will only make policy that suits their pockets. Visionless leaders.

Charity starts from the home. Governors above 50 years should also take a one-off package and leave for the good of the nation. None should retire to the Senate as they are all scrambling for. Again, they should accept a cut in most of their allowances to show patriotism. My take

'The governors also ask the government to raise taxes across board and levy anyone earning N30,000 and above monthly.'

Civil servants should get one off retirement payments after 35 years while politicians who served just 4-8 years earn salaries for life and other outrageous benefits. What about they cut all political salaries/benefits by 50% and scrap all post appointment benefits?

👏

Bravo! Your Excellencies, You may pls suggest the following to PMB. 1. No Politician above the age of 50yrs shall be a member of a Political Party. 2. No Politician above 50yrs shall apply for any position Nigeria. 3. Any Gov who reach the age of 50 shall not apply for 2nd term.

Paying off civil servant above 50 wouldn't solve the problem we are in because even the few politicians we have earn more than these workers.

Are you also doing the same in your States, Executive Governors?

See advice. Mumu people

None of them comes with any solution rather than only depending on oil revenue, hungry northern governors.

See what the people of Sri Lanka, Iraq ate doing to these useless set of politicians who never lead by example by cutting off their wasteful lifestyles but add more hardship to the poor masses. Nigerians love the clowns they call Leaders.

It's quite better that way...

They should sack them or what I think we need to give this government the Sri Lanka treatment

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I think any governor, house of Assembly, representatives and senate members withing the age of 50yrs should resign also.
