Former Deputy Governor of Lagos State and Peoples Democratic Party Board of Trustees member, Senator Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele, in this interview with TOBI AWORINDE, speaks on the need for a new national constitution, among other issuesis persistent insecurity all over the country and a lot of people point to Nigeria’s structure as the problem. Do you share this view?

There have been reports that some of the kidnappers are in cahoots with the police. What do you think should be done about that?

What would be your response to the AGF’s argument that the ban is an infringement on the freedom of movement of the herdsmen? There will be local government independence because there are supposed to be three tiers of government, and when there is independence of the local governments, the local governments can then generate their own income and they do not have to rely on the states – the states too will be generating their own income. The centre will be receiving whatever is its due from the states, according to the constitution, to maintain itself.
