Ogugu community in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State has concluded plans to stage a football tournament to unite its seven villages from an age-long crisis that had separated them.

Addressing journalists on the preparation for the game, the competition’s sponsor, Aloysius Ogbonna Jnr., said the tournament would kick off December 25 at Ogugu Central School field, Awgu and will be played till January 2, 2022. Ogbonna said the seven villages in Ogugu — Ezioha Ogbodu, Ezioha, Uhuahu, Uhuagbo, Ibite, Ugwuoma and Uhuokpo — were expected to fully participate in the tournament.

“I decided to explore football to galvanise our youths for peace-building among the villages in Ogugu and beyond,” Ogbonna said. “So, we want to use football as a platform to bring peace, unity and progress among our villages and also for our youths to use it to discover their talents in football.
