The Lagos State Government has advised residents to ensure proper sanitation and waste management to avoid the outbreak of diseases such as cholera and diarrhoea.

The Permanent Secretary, Office of Environmental Services, Omobolaji Gaji, gave this advice, according to a statement on Sunday, during the commemoration of the World Clean-Up Day, in Alausa, Ikeja.

Gaji, who was represented at the event by the Director of Environmental Education, Mrs Monsurat Banire, said the exercise was a global social action programme first observed in Estonia in 2018 aimed to combat the global solid waste problem. He said, “The environment needs people just as people need the environment because there is a strong correlation between lack of sanitation and health problems such as malaria, diarrhoea, cholera, and death, hence it is vital for everyone to collectively contribute their quota in achieving and ensuring environmental sustainability.
