Electricity Tariff Should Be Increased After Criminalising Estimated Billing, Says Gbajabiamila

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has rejected the proposed increment of electricity tariff in the country.reported that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission approved the immediate review of electricity tariffs across the country.

“I believe the National Assembly should ensure that any increase in electricity tariff if at all, should be cost-reflective and not just a whimsical increase with no empirical basis.” In a series of documents dated December 31, 2019, NERC had announced the plan to increase electricity tariff effective January 1, 2020.

The development affected customers captured in the 11 Distribution Companies spread across the country such as Abuja DISCO, Benin DISCO, Enugu DISCO, and Eko DISCO.

We are really in trouble in this Nation. No policy regarding increment of this tariff. This is the worst democratic Nation I have ever seen

With this, where are we going in Nigeria?.

femigbaja The better way to increase revenue from electricity is to widen the collection net. 1. Give everyone prepaid meter, so that no one uses light without payt. 2. Regular light will increase consumption & payt. 3. Light up rural areas and get more collection.

With this epileptic power supply? These guys will just open mouth and say rubbish like they are high. On what basis? Why are you guys joking with 200million people.

How soon can they criminalise the estimated billing? Those useless officials strut about like gods.

Simple truth..... If at all they want to increase the tariff, let them give everyone prepaid meter. After that they can now increase the tariff

...only after criminalizing... The headline is a bit confusing.

See who is talking someone who as not pay a dime for electricity ever since he came back to Nigeria

Do they go hand in hand? I most times wonder what you all are doing in the house except wasting tax payers money. Mtchewww

These people were just 🎏 fishing the poor Nigeria. We urges the Federal government to compulsoned these electricity distributors to give Nigerians a workable prepaid meters so things may be moving in transparency. Thanks

No light for my place oooo

Because this one also hook you. Stop the talk and just passed the bill

Where did Gbajabiamila see the light? We are not talking about light generated by Mikano power generators et al. How can you pay more for services not rendered? Why are our Nigerian leaders living in planet Mars?

The best truth of the year. femigbaja

Despite incessant blackout or epileptic power supply ? Poor power supply shld be criminalised as well

Yes oooo on point.....

Abeg who is this guy representing?

Wetin this boy femigbaja dey talk? U wan kill us

Criminalizing the estimated billing by discos will be the best bill the National Assembly will past into law and the 9th assembly will go down well in the book of history for such gesture.

Take this law criminalising estimated billing seriously because it is the solution to epileptic power supply in this Nation

You have no shame, as a lawyer you’re talking like this? You need to enforce prepaid meters installation and working first and you have not criminalize crazy bills. They are still distributing them! Where do you owe your intelligence?

Back your words with action.

Because you people are not payy God will judge u

You're right Sir.

Una head go dey reset small small... one of reasons Nigeria is poverty capital because govt exploit citizens and allow cooperations to do so too

Thank You Honorable Speaker of the Nigerian House of assembly. Don't ever be scared to speak the truth because you will be remembered by the populace by it. Thank you Sir.

I love you Femi💓💞

Thank you for using your brain for the Masses this January Sir. Hopefully, February and other months will be better. Don't be a Rubber Stamp

No you are talking, until we pay for what we consume, increasing tariffs for these arbitrary bills is madness.

femigbaja the man that know where the shoe pinches.

This is an unfortunate situation with unpleasantness

femigbaja kudos to you , indeed estimated bills must be criminalized. When 18k is collected from a 2 bedroom flat monthly. Who did we offend in the country.? How much is a kilowatt?

NERC should ensure that there's distribution and installation of prepaid meters, servicing of networks and sub-stations, and steady power supply before any hike in tariff is introduced.

femigbaja I wish you depended on electricity but alas, your generator is powered by diesel paid for by Nigerian taxpayers. God will have mercy on you.

Let's see if you have nerves to make it a reality.

When there is no light in the country

He sure will capitulate soon. Trust me the energy hawks will move in and give him an offer he can't refuse.

Please include criminalising this ones that will come and knock every houses every other week that the Power ( light ) has spoilt that we need to contribute 1k each to repair it without even enjoying the light more 4hours a day nomoremugun

Thank you sir. femigbaja

Rubber stamp

I concur my dear Speaker femigbaja thank you for always coming to the rescue of the common man!!!

Yes,seconded.Tariffs can increase after estimated billing is criminalised and fully dealt way out if this is distribution of prepaid meter and stable electricity

He gets my applause for this hope the other reps agree too.

Welcome to the era of no sense

I think he know what it's saying

Hope his paying nepa Bill's too
