Mallam Umar Faruk Haruna, the deputy Chief Imam, University of Benin, UNIBEN, Ekenwa Campus, has said that any animal bought with illegitimate sources of income for Eid el-Kabir sacrifice is haram and unlawful.

reports that the deputy chief Imam said this on Sunday in his sermon before the two compulsory rakats at the Eid praying ground at the campus. Haruna, who quoted from the Holy Quran 22 verses 37, noted that what Allah need from the Muslim Ummah is not the flesh nor the blood of the sacrificial animals but the piety behind the sacrifice.

reports that Eid-el-Kabir, which is also known as Eid al-Adha or the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most significant festivals in the Islamic calendar. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. It falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic lunar calendar, and coincides with the culmination of the Hajj pilgrimage.
