The Benin Branch of the Nigeria Bar Association on Thursday barred its members from handling cases of kidnapping.reports that the branch made this known in a communiqué signed by its chairman, Mr. Collins Ogiegbaen; and Secretary, Mr. Pius Oiwoh, on Thursday in Benin.
“The branch hereby orders the immediate withdrawal of services of all lawyers registered with it from defending persons charged with the grievous and felonious offences of kidnapping and armed robbery. “That this order for the withdrawal of services to persons charged with the aforementioned offences shall be with immediate effect until otherwise reviewed by a subsequent meeting of the branch.
The branch added: “That the Bar resolves to write to the judges of the criminal division of the high court of the state to dispense speedily with cases of kidnapping and armed robbery pending before them.

What if the suspect is framed up?

They shouldn't bar lawyers, I think police have always been accused for obtaining confessional statements under duress from kidnappers and robbers, so there's no point barring lawyers. A victim of kidnapping and robbery will appreciate the work of police.
In a much as I do not support unlawful/illegal activists, everyman is innocent until proven guilty So if someone is accused wrongly of kidnapping that's the end of his life in Edo? Later they will call themselves 'learned colleagues'

What about defending high profile corruption cases? Pen robbers are equally as selfish as armed robbers.
That is a breach of the Defendant's constitutionally protected entitlement. Every litigant irrespective of status/offence is entitled to a lawyer of his choice and NBA cannot dictate. Also a breach of the provision of LPA that enjoin lawyer not to reject brief on flimsy ground.
Good move, other states should follow the same way. Let's see who will defend the idiots
