Some poultry farmers have advised that data collection and management will help to measure farm production and transform the poultry industry.

Speaking at the unveiling of Afarmacco, a web-based app that can help keep data on poultry farming, The Chief Executive Officer of Afarmacco, Mr Godfrey Ebetaleye, explained that the app provided a digital avenue, which would enable farmers to access and direct the administrative, purchasing, sales, financial, health management of farming business, on their phones.

“We are building the ultimate trade exchange for poultry farmers in Nigeria because from what we are structuring, farmers will be able to mingle with off-takers online, by so doing, the off-takers would be able to see who is producing what or what they have in stocks,” he said. He noted that the app, which could be accessed for free, also enables farmers to market their produce even before maturity.National Publicity Secretary, Poultry Association of Nigeria, Dr Michael Olatunbosun, added that the Afarmacco app would link farmers with other businesses and networks.

‘‘Of course, it will help farmers to develop a good culture of management because they will now have to be keeping figures and be putting their operations into figures which they will, later on, analyse to see how their businesses have been going.’’ PAN Chairman in Ogun State, Idowu Asenuga, said, ‘‘Afarmacco has the potential and what it takes to change the narratives within the poultry sector. Data is very germane and it is very important we use such application to enhance data collection in business operation.’’All rights reserved.
