Findings have established that the menace of land grabbing is driven by factors such as urbanization, industrialization, and agribusiness expansion. The scenario is not different in Ogun state where land grabbers' activities over the years have exacerbated insecurity and promoted inequality.
But determined to end the menace, Governor Abiodun has directed that the State's Land Grabbers' Law that criminalizes the nefarious activities of land grabbers should be given full effect. Signed in 2016, the law prescribes 25 years imprisonment or death sentence for anyone found guilty of land grabbing. According to the law, death sentence applies when a life is or lives are lost in such forceful takeover of land.
