COVID-19: Osinbajo explains Buhari’s powers to lockdown Abuja, Lagos, Ogun

He said this is because the President’s action is not only essential but very well backed by extant Nigerian laws.In a statement to DAILY POST on Tuesday by Laolu Akande, a Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, the Vice President explained that the legality of the shutdowns announced by the President is entirely legal.“I am not sure some of the people who have commented on the issue of lockdown have come across the Quarantine Act.

“For instance, he can say, people should not go out; no public gatherings/ So, it is a regulation that gives the President powers, and these powers come from the National Assembly because, of course, it is an act of the National Assembly.” Prof Osinbajo urged all interested individuals and groups to go through the legislation and understand the provisions therein.

Eran man or boy to d president.. Anytime he made his blunder..He will quickly send u out to go and clean up his mes.

All this constitutional bla bla will not help us in a critical emergency situation like this. Mr President has done the right thing for now. Let us sacrifice our comfort for the sake of saving the country this calamity

I'm glad someone sensible is explaining the act cos I have seen different funny opinions.

I am not so sure some of the people who have commented on the issue have come across the Quarantine Act. There is a Quarantine Act of 1926, it’s been published in all of the Laws of Nigeria, every edition of the Laws of Nigeria, it is there.

Half baked Dino who was in national assembly for 8yrs never knew this and my legal luminary Adegoruwa through out his law sch years don't know that either. I will enjoined you all before challenging the president with this able VP on legal matters go back and read well.

I know with you there, the president cant go wrong on such thing because I trust your capability and judgement. Keep it up my VP. We got your back.

Anytime Buhari messes up he fronts Prof
