Justice Anwuli Chikere of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Monday, restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission from deregistering 31 political parties.

NAN reports that although 33 political parties filed the matter in court, two of the parries; Labour Party and African Democratic Congress were later dropped from the suit because the parties were not deregistered by INEC. “On ]une 4, 2018, the President signed the Constitution of’ the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 Act, 2017 into law.

Delivering her ruling, the judge noted that the plaintiffs had sought the order restraining the electoral umpire from deregistering them. Justice Chikere also confirmed that there was “evidence of proof of service on the 2nd defendant and the 2nd defendant refused, neglected, failed to respond to the motion filed by the applicants.”
