Coppola Backs Scorsese, Calls Marvel Films ‘Despicable’ “Martin was kind when he said it’s not cinema...'

US film director Francis Ford Coppola speaks next to French filmmaker Bertrand Tavernier during the 11th Lumiere Film Festival in Lyon, France, on October 18, 2019.Francis Ford Coppola jumped into a controversy over the Marvel superhero movies Saturday, not just backing fellow director Martin Scorsese’s critique of the films but denouncing them as “despicable”.

But Coppola, speaking to journalists in the French city of Lyon, where he has just been awarded the Prix Lumiere for his contribution to cinema, backed his fellow Italian-American Scorsese. “Martin was kind when he said it’s not cinema. He didn’t say it’s despicable, which I just say it is.”

Marvel is great, exciting film.

Man, I respect the man for his movies back then, but entertainment and story-telling changes with the times. Back then we romanticized gangsters, today its forms of heroes and people with powers. Sure, they make money, but telling they don't provoke emotions and inspiration(cont)

How quickly they forget. 😏

Seriously these to have their own opinion but at the end of the day most of the marvel movies have been box office hits I don't know maybe they are jealous that maybe the marvel movies will start to surpass theirs

Seriously. France is it hard to not just say you don't like these kind of films, I respect your subjective view but despicable saying that's just low. But I got immense respect for France artists.

I'm just scared of MCU st*ns who will then call the guy who made The Godfather and Apocalypse Now 'irrelevant' or 'jealous' or some other silly insults. That aside, much like Marty, I respectfully disagree with this take. This discourse is fucking tiring already.

Who cares?!

I wonder why the banters never came when Marvel produced The Avengers, Age of Ultron, Infinity War or all the other movies in the franchise. Endgame makes 2 billion and what next? Every prominent director wants to bash Marvel movies.
