Chief Justice of Nigeria, Tanko Muhammad, plunged himself into an unnecessary controversy when he canvassed amending the 1999 Constitution to extend Islamic Sharia law and “accommodate some of the concerns of Muslims.” He wants the basic law amended to “suit our own position as Muslims” and canvassed the supposed numerical strength of supporters to ram the changes through.

There are other reasons for the CJN and, indeed, every judicial officer in the land to scrupulously avoid canvassing opinions in the public space on the country’s sectarian divide. Nigeria’s history is partly written in the blood of thousands of victims of sectarian blow-ups, mostly between adherents of the two major faiths – Islam and Christianity.

Insensitivity has poisoned relations among the normally friendly nationalities. The CJN’s statement that “…we have the number to amend the constitution to suit or own position as Muslims,” echoes that propensity of the elite to ride roughshod over others and assault Nigeria’s secularity. y Human Rights Watch and media tallies. In Yelwa and Shendam in Plateau State in 2004, over 1,000 died in attacks and reprisals. There are lawsuits that border on the clash of faiths, including the wearing of religiously symbolic clothing in public institutions that stipulate uniforms, some of which will inevitably berth at the appellate courts.

Most uncelebrated CJN in the history of Nigeria

What do expect from a man who goes around carrying a damned hand bag?

Please can someone explain this bag uncle is always carrying?

Something is wrong with that religion and I dont know why. It has the capacity to turn the best of humans to the worst. Most of them become irrational, self centered, murderous, insensitive to the feeling of others and schemers of evil. Such is the lot of this CJN.

It takes an unworthy, senseless and insensitive CJN to state this “…we have the number to amend the constitution to suit or own position as Muslims,”

The CJN is not competent to be a CJN, simple as that. Having a law degree is one thing, making rational decision on divisive issues for a country is another. Harmonization is better disharmony. He needs to focus his attention on injustices & illegally detained citizens.

Despite the fact that select states have aligned completely with sharia, sad a CJN that ought to be neutral in the face of a multifaceted nation, would throw caution to the wind and be so biased in reasoning, taking sides with his own religion. He disqualified himself at once.

Why Islam is always in the mix of trouble? There can't be one religion in Nigeria, the gate of hell is too small to prevail against the church of Christ Jesus.

This man should actually be a farmer or Hunter

Why did I wasted my time reading this rubbish.

See face like native doctor 😷

Dis man is oloriburuku

What's this sharia man up to now?

Nigeria is going Turkey way. There's need to go our separate ways.
