Amid the new normal, the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) of Nigeria has emphasised the need to leverage human resource tools to equip the workforce for the future.

The institute urged organisations to develop new leadership capabilities, build an agile and personalised learning culture as well as enhance employee experience by establishing metrics for valuing human capital.

To deliver these for effective organisational and change management, she said HR needed to work with business leaders to drive changes in the organisation to enable agility and flexibility. For robust knowledge, she said HR needs to have broad and in-depth knowledge of the business and the environment it plays in; while to create disruption, HR needs to develop design thinking skills and introduce it to the workforce.

For individuals, she added: “As new skill sets emerge and the demand for certain jobs and skills increase, individuals who want to remain relevant in the new future will need to broaden and deepen the relevant capabilities through continuous learning, reskilling and upskilling.”
